PROPER NUTRITION DURING CHILDHOOD AND ADOLESCENCE
The essential nutrients that we obtain daily through our diet help us remain healthy and built the body’s organs during the age of infancy, childhood and adolescence. The healthy and balanced nutritional education that starts in the family continues in the school environment and is completed in the social environment, is considered to be crucial for the maintenance of health and the prevention of obesity with all the implications that follow (hypertension, lipidemias, problems of the blood coagulation, asthma, endocrinologic and psychosomatic problems) in the adult life.We are now aware of the fact that prevention is better than treatment. Referring to obesity and generally weight problems, it is believed that prevention IS the treatment. However, the contemporary lifestyle with the increased demands at the working field and not only, reinforces the sedentary life, the television viewing and the change in the eating habits (skipping breakfast, gradually increase in the obtained portions of food and beverages, increase in the fat and salt intake, decrease in the fibre, fruit and vegetable intake, progressive replacement of the mediterranean eating model and increase in the consumption of fast-food). As a result, many people and especially young people are getting away from the traditional healthy eating habits and thus making difficult the prevention process. For this reason, the opinion, guidance and support of an expert in the field of nutrition who firstly will give advice to parents and children-adolescents and secondly will undertake the systematic nutritional follow-up in order to control their weight and various health situations that are related to it, is considered necessary.
